"... An SEO website critique showed us the best course of action for improving our website. - T. Williams, Marketing Manager"
We have put together a few tips for those of you who prefer to do all your website modifications yourself.
If your site isn't listed it won't get any visitors, so check that you are in the listings and submit to the search engines if you aren't.
Flash and Frames sites tend to perform badly in search engines. Do a search and check out the number of flash or frames sites you come across. This is because search engine spiders can't read the code in an SWF file and don't read all the information from internal files in frames sites. Avoid these technologies whenever possible.
Remember to include meta tags in your site. If you don't include these the site will perform less effectively than if they are included. The key meta tags to use are "Description" and "Keywords". Most search engines will take account of the content of one or both of these tags.
Don't spam the search engines. Multiple submissions are now frowned upon by most major search engines as a drain on their resources. A good search engine will keep your site in their listings once it is in, unless the site is down for some considerable length of time (weeks rather than days). This is true for all the major spidering engines, such as Google, FAST, Inktomi, Teoma, Altavista and Wisenut.
Get good quality links into your site, free for all links and links pages just don't work any more.
