Small Business Site - Specialist Garage Services
This site is a prime example of what good keyword analysis and basic optimisation can do for a site. The site was originally put online in 1999 and acted primarily as a brochure for the company. I came along early in 2001 and was given the task of attracting visitors to the site. A Keyword Analysis study was commenced and some targeted keyword phrases were chosen for the site. These keywords were geared up to specialist services offered by the garage.
The site was then optimised around these keywords and the search engines were checked to see if the site was listed and if not submissions were made to ensure listings. After about three months the site was getting 30-40 highly targeted visitors per day. Given that listings were on worldwide search engines and the business was a local business, we didn't expect a great conversion rate on visitors for the site. This was borne out by a conversion rate of approximately one visitor in every thousand. On the plus side however each conversion was worth approximately £300 to the business, so the site was generating about £300 in additional revenue each month to the business, comfortably paying its development and optimisation costs.
Following this success the site paid for some paid placements to top directories such as Looksmart UK and Yahoo UK, to attract more UK visitors to increase the conversion rate. This generated an increase in visitors to about 70/day and a doubling of the conversion rate.
